Manufactured 1999 and registered 27th January 2000. The first generation Proton Satria, also marketed as the Proton Compact in the United Kingdom, and the Proton 300 Series in various continental European markets is a 3-door hatchback based on the fourth generation Mitsubishi Mirage / Colt. It was unveiled on 24 November 1994 as the result of a joint venture between Proton and Diversified Resources Bhd. (DRB), and was first imported to Europe during 1995. The Proton Satria was produced at Automotive Manufacturers Malaysia's (AMM) plant in Pekan, Pahang and was initially distributed by Usahasama Proton-DRB (USPD), a company in which Proton held a 30% stake in late 1994. This is a post-1996 Satria with a redesigned, larger rear hatch, which makes it unique from the Mitsubishi Mirage bodyshell it was originally based on. This unit is a great example of the trifecta of Momo steering with well-used patina, Recaro seats and Japanese origin base model. No new Momo as scratches and gouges would be heartbreaking and this is a car that begs to be DRIVEN. Not a trailer queen or idle piece of sculpture. The brake setup is identical to the Proton Satria GTI. Where it differs are the shocks and the anti-roll bar setup, although you can bolt on a GTI rear anti roll bar (slightly thicker diameter, direct acting front connection). Front and rear on the GTI use spherical bearing end links. The C98 chassis Satria 1.6 is setup for comfort compared to the C99s which are a little more sport-oriented. I'm a former motor industry Product Planner and my brother was a design engineer at Lotus Engineering. We pick and choose specs carefully for the intended application. The exhaust system is very refined yet flows well (3 straight-thru mufflers) and has just the right growl and full throttle/acceleration. I have clocked barely 200km on this build and the buyer may need to do some minor work to get it to full potential and aesthetics. For those who think this is expensive, add up the costs of sourcing an acceptable base shell, buying and doing all the work detailed above, repairing any rust spots or holes, roof panel replaced, body and paint work, etc. to THIS level of quality ... you'll end up spending equal or more.
